Quickfire with Bianca Osbourne
Get to know chef and tv personality, Bianca whose knowledge in food and health go hand-in-hand.
1. What was your first job in the culinary industry?
I worked at a restaurant in Edmonton, called Culina Cafe´. My first busy service confirmed that I am so not a line cook.
2. What is your flavour philosophy?
Fresh, healthy, and healing.
3. One ingredient you can’t live without?
Bone broth or vanilla. I drink bone broth daily and literally add vanilla to EVERYTHING. I even wear a vanilla scent.
4. A cooking utensil that’s always in your kitchen?
My milk frother is very important to me!
5. What’s your signature dish and why?
I don’t really have one. My whims and inspirations change all the time.
6. Go-to cooking technique and why?
Currently, air frying. It's easy and makes food delicious and crispy without requiring a lot of technique or mess.
7. Best memory as a chef thus far?
Getting my own cooking show and the pleasure of being a chef expert on the Marilyn Denis Show for four years.
8. Worst memory as a chef thus far?
Catering a lunch for 500 and underestimated how much people would eat, and ran out of food. I still get nightmares about that one.
9. Go-to place for sourcing ingredients?
Along Roncesvalles Ave in Toronto. There’s tons of deli’s, greengrocers, and fishmongers, which allows me to support local vendors and get what I need. Plus, they end up being cheaper than the big box grocery stores.
10. Where do you go to eat on your day off?
Honestly anywhere! If I don’t have to cook, it's a day off!
11. A restaurant you always wanted to work at?
None. I’ve never aspired to be a restaurant chef. I hate the pace.
12. Your chef hero?
Anthony Bourdain…but everybody probably says that lol.
13. What’s next for you as a chef?
A cookbook and continuing to help people unlock the healing power of food.
